Opening sequences sound analysis

Trainspotting

  • The upbeat and fast-paced music is playing when Renton and Spud are being chased. This is parrallel because it is a fast-paced scene with fast-paced music playing. It plays with the audiences emotions because the audience are in good mood once the music starts playing. The meaning of this is to get the audience into a mood that is suited to the film.
  • Diegetic sound occurs when the car tries to screech to a holt when Renton is running. This creates tensse atmosphere because the audience don't know whether Renton will get hit or not.
  • There is non-diegetic sound when the goal goes in. The meaning of this is that it is making the audience feel like they are in a football ground and try to hook them into the film world therefore they are more engaged.
  • I have learnt that this opening sequence uses sound to manipulate the audiences emotions. The sound right at the start of the video clip gets you into a good and upbeat mood. We will use a sound track that arouses emotions that will get the audience in the right mood for our film.

Seven

  • There is non-diegetic sound after the credit "A Film By David Fincher". The screechy sound creates a tense atmosphere and it effects the audience by making them feel uncomfortable because it's not a pleasant sound. It also effects their emotions, they will start to become a bit scared. Making them uncomfortable is a good thing because they in the mood for the film. They know what might occur. They have been hooked into this film because the sound gives away the unpleasantness and creepiness of the film. It is unpleasant because the film is about a serial killer and creepy because he uses the seven deadly sins for his method of murder.
  • The non-diegetic sound when the title is presented, is less nerve-racking than the others sounds and sounds more calm. It's very different to how all the other sounds make you feel. Up until the title of the film all the sounds give a sense of tension and horror and the similar sounds are heard after the title of the film is presented. It is a different sound because it is presenting the title of the film, it has significance.
  • When we see a pen writing on the page, the non-diegetic sound we here is unexpected. The meaning of this is that it is telling the audience that this is a dark thriller film, with some elements of horror. The sound fits the genres of the film very well. It creates an unpleasant, scary atmosphere. An atmosphere that might occur throughout the film. It prepares the audience for the film to be scary, nerve racking and unpleasant. When the audience here this sound, they will be generally surprised and will realise what kind of film this is.
  • I have learnt that sound is used creatively to change viewers emotions and create a particular atmosphere. It can clearly portray the genre of a film.
  • We will take this on board and use sound to suggest our film is a fast-paced crime, thriller.
The Dark Knight
  • As the bank robbery is happening, Exciting music is playing in the background. This is Parallel sound because the exciting music reflects the exciting moment for the audience as the bank robbery is happening. It creates an atmosphere where the film is exciting and fast-paced.
  • The opening shot is establing buildings in a city. The camera starts zooming in on one of the buildings. This is accompanied with parrallel sound. As it starts zooming in, tension is created.
  • When we see the glass window being smashed and then it cuts to an unknown man with a clown mask on his face with a gun, the music which is playing hooks the audience in. The music hooks the reader in because it is exciting music. This adds to the fact that this is an exciting scene which suggests that this is parallel sound. It is exciting because we have gathered that these people in clown masks are planning to do something and it is mystery because we don't know what they are actually planning to do at this moment in the film. This excitement for the audience when watching this hooks them in.
  • There is parallel sound when The Joker is revealed. It is a dramatic moment in the film because up until this moment The Joker is a mystery to the audience. The dramatic moment in the film is accompanied by a dramatic like sound. The meaning of this is that it is portraying The Joker as a main character and it is dramatic because The Joker has finally being revealed to the audience. It plays with the audiences emotions because the sound is so dramatic therefore emphasises the significance of revealing The Joker.
  • I have learnt that this opening sequence uses the sound to emphasise that the bank robbery is an intense, exciting and fast-pace which makes it exciting for the audience to watch therefore it hooks them in.
  • As the sound contributes to the fast-paced aspect of the opening sequence. We will take this on baord and implement a sound track that makes our opening sequence seem fast-paced.
